The debate regarding the residence reportedly prepared for Abdullah Öcalan on Imralı has turned into a new polemic between AKP member Şamil Tayyar and journalist Abdülkadir Selvi.
After MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli described the structure in question as a "two-story house with a garden" in his statement to journalist Nagehan Alçı, Tayyar made new assessments on his social media account.
Tayyar stated that the "250-square-meter" information he had previously mentioned was confirmed by Bahçeli. He noted that the MHP leader objected to the structure being called a "villa."
Responding to Abdülkadir Selvi's assessments on the subject, Tayyar argued that the structure is not an addition built according to needs since 1935, as Selvi had suggested.
Whatever you call it, we are talking about a 250-square-meter duplex residence with a garden. It is certainly not a hobby garden.
Tayyar claimed that the residence was planned as both a living space and a work office. Emphasizing that his assessment was his personal opinion, Tayyar stated, "As Öcalan becomes more visible, the reaction to the process increases."
Drawing attention to the transparency aspect of the debate, Tayyar stated that information regarding the process would not remain hidden and said that the matter should be conducted openly for those who think differently as well.
In his post, Tayyar also expressed that Bahçeli knows the details of what is happening on Imralı and wants the process to be conducted transparently. Stating that Bahçeli is proceeding with a "single agenda," Tayyar argued that this is the correct stance.
