There is less than 2 months left until the local elections. All eyes are on the Istanbul candidates in these critical elections.
It is being awaited with curiosity whether the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) will field a candidate in Istanbul, where 5 candidates have been announced so far.
Evaluations continue within the DEM Party following the candidacy bid by Başak Demirtaş, the wife of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş.
According to the report by Birgün, the DEM Party's Central Executive Committee (MYK) meeting will take place today. The discussions held with the voter base in Istanbul and the views of the DEM Party provincial organization will be evaluated at the meeting.
It is stated that an announcement may not be made immediately after the critical MYK meeting, and that the statement could be left until Monday. Leading figures in the party point out that they are getting one step closer to fielding a candidate with each passing day.
One of the prominent names mentioned for Istanbul is Ali Kenanoğlu, one of the Alevi opinion leaders. Kenanoğlu is also among the names that could significantly influence the votes of the Alevi community. Decisions regarding whether the two names will be announced as "co-chairs" or "chairs" will also be determined during the discussions to be held at the MYK.
