The 'Palace' will have the final say: Here are the 3 names being discussed in the corridors

Rumors have begun to spread in political corridors that Supreme Election Council (YSK) Chairman Ahmet Yener will leave his post in January. Yener, who managed the 2023 presidential and local elections, had paid a farewell visit to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. It is also alleged that during this visit, he made suggestions regarding the steps that should be taken for a stronger Supreme Election Council.

Yener recently visited CHP leader Özgür Özel and IYI Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu, holding various meetings. However, the most notable development has been the claims in the corridors that Yener is preparing to bid farewell.

NAMES DISCUSSED FOR YSK CHAIRMANSHIP

In her article titled "A new era begins at the YSK," Nuray Babacan shared the three names that have come to the fore for the Supreme Election Council chairmanship to replace Yener. According to Babacan, the names Serdar Mutta, Talip Bakır, and Celal Albay are being discussed in the corridors as the strongest candidates for the chairmanship seat.

Major changes will take place at the YSK in the coming period. In January, 6 new members of the council will be determined through elections to be held among members of the Court of Cassation and the Council of State. With this change, 6 of the council's 11 members will be renewed. The chairman will be elected from among the members of the Court of Cassation, and the deputy chairman from among the members of the Council of State.

THE PALACE'S FINAL SAY

Among the candidates discussed in the corridors, it is stated that the name Celal Albay is being mentioned more frequently. However, Babacan points out that although there are lobbying efforts by AKP politicians, the final word will belong to the Presidential Palace. In other words, the Presidency will make the final decision.

WHO IS AHMET YENER?

Ahmet Yener was born on April 13, 1966, in Beypazarı. After completing his education at Ankara Imam Hatip High School and Istanbul University Faculty of Law, he began his career as a judge candidate in Ankara. He subsequently served as a judge in Baykan, Yığılca, Sivrihisar, Osmaniye, and Kırıkkale, respectively.

Elected as a member of the Court of Cassation on December 22, 2011, Yener became a member of the 21st Civil Chamber of the Court of Cassation. On January 16, 2020, he was elected as a member of the Supreme Election Council and began his duties on January 24, 2020.

Before the 2023 elections, on January 26, 2023, Yener was elected Chairman of the Supreme Election Council. Yener served as YSK Chairman during the 2023 presidential and 2024 local elections.
