They clashed on social media: Criminal complaint from Nedim Şener against Mücahit Birinci

CHP leader Özgür Özel announced that former AKP MKYK member Mücahit Birinci had promised Murat Kapki, who is currently detained in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) investigation, that he would be released in exchange for a "false statement" and demanded 2 million dollars. Reading from a letter written by Kapki, Özel stated that Birinci had suggested he "think Machiavellian." The dispute escalated into a profanity-laden argument on social media between Hürriyet columnist Nedim Şener and Birinci, leading Şener to file a criminal complaint against him.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated that former AKP MKYK member Mücahit Birinci had promised Murat Kapki, who is being held in custody as part of the İBB investigation, that he would be released in exchange for a "fabricated false statement."

Özel noted that Birinci had placed a pre-prepared statement in front of Kapki and said, "You will sign this, you will also pay 2 million dollars, and you will walk out of here easily."

ÖZEL READ THAT LETTER

Özel read the letter from Kapki. The letter included the following statements:

"Kapki even said, 'I will not slander anyone.' He then told me, 'I am telling you to think Machiavellian. One day, if you see that the CHP is doing well, you can just say in court that you said those things just to get out. I will be your contact in all the media anyway, we will handle this.' I said, 'Fuat Uğur, Cem Küçük, and Nedim Şener are constantly writing and talking lies and nonsense about me.' He replied, 'I have them all. Don't worry, I will handle it.' After all this, I said that I would absolutely not give such a statement."

While all these developments were taking place, Nedim Şener and Mücahit Birinci argued and exchanged insults on the social media platform X.

CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FROM NEDİM ŞENER

Following this, Nedim Şener filed a criminal complaint against Birinci.

The criminal complaint stated, "The suspect Mücahit Birinci, on 14.08.2025, used statements on his personal X account such as 'Son, look, I will twist you. When you posted this X, your f***ing brain might not remember due to alcohol. I called you immediately and you filled in the blanks, do you remember? Why didn't you continue your questions? Because I explained them all to you one by one. Then you got hyped up and thought I would back down. Jackal, polite, sweetie. Look at what I will do when I see you. You mentioned my name, I mention your name occasionally when there are jerks in traffic etc., it comes out of my mouth while yelling at them. You pure jerk!' and thus insulted and threatened my client. The words 'Jackal, mullet, sweetie, mentally ill, crazy, and jerk' used by the suspect on his X account constitute the legal elements of the crime of insult. Furthermore, the suspect openly threatened my client with the phrases 'you will see what it is like to bluff, I will turn you into an accordion, I will twist you, look at what I will do when I see you.' For these reasons, we are filing a complaint against the suspect."
