Thousands resign from İYİ Party in a single day

İYİ Party saw a total of 12,750 members resign, including Provincial Chairman Vejdin Ensarioğlu and 17 district chairmen, following the decision of Mehmet Salim Ensarioğlu, who resigned from the party after a disciplinary process was initiated against him for supporting the name 'Sheikh Said Boulevard' in Diyarbakır on his social media account.

THOUSANDS OF RESIGNATIONS INCLUDING 17 DISTRICT CHAIRMEN

Support has poured in for Mehmet Salim Ensarioğlu, who resigned from the İYİ Party after a disciplinary process was initiated against him for supporting the name 'Sheikh Said Boulevard' for a boulevard to be built in Diyarbakır on his social media account. Following Ensarioğlu's decision, a total of 12,750 party members, including Provincial Chairman Vejdin Ensarioğlu and 17 district chairmen, resigned.

Former State Minister and İYİ Party Istanbul MP Mehmet Salim Ensarioğlu, against whom a disciplinary process was initiated due to his statement calling the name 'Sheikh Said Boulevard'—which was proposed for a new road to be built in Diyarbakır—'one of the most important values of our region,' announced his resignation from the party yesterday in a post on his social media account. Reacting to the situation, the party's Diyarbakır Provincial Administration and 17 district chairmen announced their resignation from the party in a press statement.

"İYİ PARTY HAS BEEN UNABLE TO TOLERATE FREE AND INDEPENDENT VIEWS"

Vejdin Ensarioğlu used the following expressions in his resignation text:

"I have served as the İYİ Party Diyarbakır Provincial Chairman since 2018, and like many of my fellow party administrators, we have certainly overcome many difficulties to reach this day. Our democratic stance, which loves our state, our flag, and our nation, is evident. Just as my political past, which has labored for rights, law, justice, and the survival of our state, has taken precedence over my personal interests, it is certainly out of the question for us to stand by those who do not think like me within the party and who are driven by ambition and a desire for seats. We condemn with regret the unfair and baseless accusations made against our minister and Istanbul MP Mehmet Salim Ensarioğlu on social media for the past few days. While the naming of a boulevard in Diyarbakır as Sheikh Said by the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, which is managed by a trustee, was met with understanding by a large segment of society, there is no expression in our former state minister's social media statement—which rejected the vulgar insults made against Sheikh Said in the media—that offends the values of the Republic or suggests treason. Unfortunately, the İYİ Party, to which we have dedicated our hearts and which wanted to continue its path as free and independent in order to write a new story in the 21st century and show our nation a third way, has been unable to tolerate free and independent views."

"OUR EXISTENCE IS OUT OF THE QUESTION WHERE SALIM ENSARİOĞLU IS NOT PRESENT"

We want the entire public to know that we stand against the lynching campaign launched against our minister's request. Furthermore, we would like to remind those who have no respect or tolerance even for the deceased: We are in the 21st century, and our existence is out of the question where our political and regional elder, our valued Salim Ensarioğlu, is not present. On this occasion, we respectfully inform the public that we are resigning from the İYİ Party along with our Diyarbakır provincial and district organizations, as well as 12,750 members."
