TIM President calls on the government regarding 'Israel'
Following the Ministry of Trade's announcement that trade with Israel has been completely cut off, TIM President Gültepe stated that the state should cover the losses.
The Ministry of Trade has announced that both exports to and imports from Israel have been completely halted.
Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) President Mustafa Gültepe said, "There are companies that conduct 70-80 percent of their exports to Israel; if the export ban lasts a long time, they will face major difficulties; the state needs to support them and cover their losses."
Gültepe answered journalists' questions at a press conference where April foreign trade figures were announced following Turkey's decision to cut off imports and exports with Israel.
Gültepe used the following expressions in his statement:
It is not easy to immediately replace the 5-6 billion dollar loss that may arise due to the suspension of exports to Israel with other markets.
If the trade issue with Israel is not resolved within 1-2 months, we will have to revise our year-end export target of 267 billion dollars down toward 260 billion dollars.
'WE SPOKE WITH THE MINISTER OF TRADE'
We spoke with the Minister of Trade about the issue of goods that have already been paid for (in exports to Israel) and are stuck at customs; we expect the problem regarding the goods that have been paid for to be resolved within 1-2 days.
There are companies that conduct 70-80 percent of their exports to Israel; if the export ban lasts a long time, they will face major difficulties; the state needs to support them and cover their losses.
