He became the TİP candidate for Hatay! What is Gökhan Zan's projected vote share?

There is less than 2 months left until the local elections. In this critical election, the results from Hatay, which was among the areas most affected by the February 6 earthquakes, are being awaited with curiosity, alongside those of Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir.

Gökhan Zan, who was a parliamentary candidate for the İYİ Party in Hatay during the May 14 elections and resigned on December 27, 2023, has become the Workers' Party of Turkey's (TİP) candidate for Hatay Metropolitan Municipality.

While the CHP's decision to re-nominate the incumbent mayor Lütfü Savaş in Hatay has sparked reactions, it was suggested today during the Party Assembly meeting that Savaş's candidacy would be re-evaluated and could even be withdrawn.

While there is curiosity about the impact Gökhan Zan's candidacy will have in Hatay, Researcher-Sociologist Semih Turan, who appeared on a Sözcü TV broadcast, made the following statements;

'IT IS VERY CLEAR HE WILL RECEIVE A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF VOTES'

"Gökhan Zan has no chance of winning the election. However, it is very clear that he will receive a significant number of votes. What the DEM Party will do there is also very important. In this equation, the winner would be the AK Party candidate.

Of course, politics does not always result from desk-based engineering. However, what is seen here is this: The name of the CHP's Lütfü Savaş was a mistake from the start, and it has not been able to recover since. I am sure there are discussions in the Party Assembly as well.

However, I think the Gökhan Zan move will be important at the Party Assembly meeting. Because we all know Gökhan Zan's place in public opinion due to his actions and the struggle he put up during the earthquake. Therefore, if we think of it like chess, this move by TİP is a very important one."

HOW MANY VOTES WILL GÖKHAN ZAN RECEIVE? 

Oğul Tuna, while providing a percentage regarding the votes Zan will receive, said, "Gökhan Zan has become a symbol in that region. He is a former football player with a suitable background and a clean history. He is also a figure known in society. Such figures can receive a significant number of votes, even if they are from a party like TİP, which has a 3-4 percent vote potential. Suddenly, like 8-10 points."

"I CANNOT SAY FOR SURE, BUT..."

Emphasizing that Zan's candidacy would cause the CHP to lose, Tuna stated the following;

"This disrupts the balances there and causes the CHP to lose. In other words, this candidacy could result in the CHP losing. I cannot say for sure, of course, but that is the situation as it appears.

Gökhan Zan is already someone with a social democratic background. He will take votes from the CHP, and the way for the AK Party could be cleared. It is very difficult for him to win, of course."
