TKH: 'Sheikh Said is reactionism'

The Communist Movement of Turkey (TKH) has released a statement regarding the decision by the trustee administration appointed by the AKP to name the highway built between Diyarbakır and Elazığ after Sheikh Said.

"SHEIKH SAID IS REACTIONISM"

In the statement, while emphasizing that Sheikh Said is a symbol of reactionism and counter-revolution, it was stated, "Giving this name to the country's streets and squares is an overt hostility toward the Republic, secularism, and progressivism." The statement, published under the headline "Sheikh Said is reactionism!", included the following:

"Do not remain silent for a secular Turkey!

The naming of the highway built between Diyarbakır and Elazığ after Sheikh Said, a representative of reactionism, counter-revolution, and political Islamism, by the trustee administration appointed by the AKP is proof of the regime change in the country.

At the same time, the choice of the name Sheikh Said is a conscious step and a price paid by the AKP to the sharia-advocating HÜDA-PAR before the local elections. The fact that such a step is taken in the 100th year of the Republic, founded in 1923, not only shows the hypocritical politics of the AKP but also sufficiently expresses the reactionary-fascist character of the regime. On one hand, the release of the likes of Ogün Samast, and on the other, the naming of streets after Sheikh Said, also show that the AKP-MHP-Hezbollah alliance has now become a state power.

"WE CALL FOR STRUGGLE"

Sheikh Said is a symbol of reactionism and counter-revolution. Giving this name to the country's streets and squares is an overt hostility toward the Republic, secularism, and progressivism. We declare once again that we will not bow to this audacity shown against the Republic and secularism, and we call on the progressive, working, and patriotic forces of this country to struggle!

Secularism will not be won by embracing the likes of Sheikh Said, but by struggling against this mentality!"
