TKP statement on August 30: “Liberation is in our own hands”

The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) released a written statement on the occasion of the 104th anniversary of the August 30 Victory. The statement, issued under the signature of the TKP Central Committee, emphasized that the War of Independence was a historical victory won against imperialism.

In the statement titled “104 Years Later: Liberation Is Again in Our Own Hands,” it was argued that Turkey is once again under the siege of imperialist plans today. The statement alleged that the AKP government and the capitalist class are dragging the country into regional tensions with their “Neo-Ottomanist” goals.

The TKP stated that the August 30 Victory was won through the will for independence of the Anatolian people and their resistance on the front lines, while also drawing attention to the logistical and diplomatic support of the Soviet Union during this process. The statement expressed that the victory paved the way for the founding of the Republic.

The TKP emphasized organization and independence in its August 30 statement.

In the party's statement, it was claimed that over the last quarter-century, Turkey has become more integrated with the regional strategies of imperialism; it was asserted that public resources have been transferred to holding companies and the country has been left to the influence of religious sects and communities.

“A new victory will arise from waging an uncompromising struggle against domestic and foreign bosses, imperialist alliances, and the structures of religious sects and communities. Our country needs a republic of the working people, where it will be completely freed from the hegemony of holding companies and imperialist occupiers. Liberation is in our own hands.”

In its statement, the TKP indicated that the people must “organize without waiting for a savior,” expressing that liberation from exploitation, reactionism, and war will only be possible if the people take their own destiny into their own hands.
