TKP's take on Syria: 'AKP fended off the Israeli threat by giving the US and Israel what they wanted'

Kemal Okuyan, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), made assessments regarding the current situation in Syria and the policies of the AKP.

Stating that the government fended off the Israeli threat by meeting the demands of the US and Israel, Okuyan said, "They gave more than the SDF would have given to the US and Israel." Emphasizing that the handover of Syria to HTS also means "regime export" for the AKP, Okuyan commented on the support from secular segments for expansionist policies, stating, "Without a consistent program, it is not easy to rid oneself of Americanism, pro-Israel sentiment, and anti-Kurdish hostility."

Recalling the TKP's statement on recent developments titled "Our country is not safer now," which noted that "Those who are 'secular' in Turkey but 'jihadist' in Syria, and those who are followers of Sheikh Said and Said Nursi in Turkey while defending secularism in Syria, are working hand in hand to help the AKP government," Okuyan stated that this is the summary of the situation, however painful it may be.

"There is US imperialism, Israel, and Neo-Ottomanism in the lessons of Syria," said Okuyan, emphasizing that the error of identity politics has been exposed and that Americanism is a disaster that only benefits exploiters. He added, "Another lesson is that a non-integrated Republicanism will explode at every opportunity... It exploded on the Palestine issue, it exploded in Syria. In fact, there is also confusion regarding NATO and similar issues."

In his assessment of the correct approach to these events, Okuyan stated, "For this reason, Republicans must debate courageously and, if necessary, separate. Those who salute the Syria project agreed upon today by the US, Israel, the UK, the AKP, and Saudi Arabia simply because the SDF has been sidelined cannot have any connection with Republican values. While there is still time, they should join the Neo-Ottoman project shaped by Bahçeli, Erdoğan, and Öcalan (if they haven't already)."

There is much to be said. And we will say it. However, it must be emphasized immediately that the AKP noticed the "Israeli threat" and chose to fend off this threat by giving Israel and the US what they wanted. Trump is an imperialist bandit, and he has a style of solving things like a merchant. Our own leaders also came to power years ago saying they would govern with a merchant mentality. They agreed easily. They gave more than the SDF would have given to the US and Israel.

Syria was left to HTS, which opens the south of the country to Israel and cooperates with Israel and the US against Hezbollah in Lebanon. For the AKP, the Jolani team also means a "regime export." We were not at all surprised that there are those within Turkey's secular segments who are very excited about this regime export.
