TRNC President Erhürman's first visit will be to Ankara: Will he visit Bahçeli?

In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) presidential elections held on Sunday, October 19, the opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) candidate Tufan Erhürman emerged as the winner of the election by a landslide margin.

This result was evaluated as an unexpected development for Ankara, which had supported the incumbent President Ersin Tatar in the elections.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan congratulated Erhürman on his victory, sharing the message, "We will continue to defend the sovereign rights and interests of the TRNC."

BAHÇELİ HAD REACTED SHARPLY TO THE ELECTION RESULT

Following the elections, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, a partner in the People's Alliance, responded to the results with harsh statements.

Claiming that the turnout in the presidential election was low, Bahçeli called for the "TRNC Parliament to convene urgently and declare that it will not accept the election results and a return to a federation."

In a statement made at his party's group meeting, Bahçeli had used the expression, "The TRNC should be Turkey's 82nd province."

FIRST VISIT TO ANKARA

According to the report by Türkiye Gazetesi, the first official visit that the new President Tufan Erhürman will make after taking office will be to Ankara.

It was reported that shortly after taking office, Erhürman will come to Turkey to hold meetings with both President Erdoğan and other officials.

It was conveyed that in his initial statements, President Erhürman emphasized that they want to break down existing prejudices by establishing correct communication with Turkey.

Erhürman emphasized the strategic importance of the relations between the two countries by using the expression, "Turkey is of vital importance for Turkish Cypriots as a guarantor country."

It has not yet been clarified whether President Erhürman will visit MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli before his Ankara visit.
