President Trump, speaking to reporters during a museum visit in Washington, criticized Lisa Cook's actions, stating, "What she did was unacceptable. If she doesn't resign, I will remove her from office."
Lisa Cook responded to Trump's remarks, noting that the allegations relate to a mortgage application from four years before she joined the Fed. In a statement on social media, Cook said, "I am not considering leaving my post because of some questions asked in a tweet."

On August 20, Trump had demanded Cook's resignation in a post on the Truth Social platform, citing a report published by Bloomberg. The report stated that Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte had requested that Attorney General Pam Bondi open an investigation into Cook. In that post, Trump had said, "Cook must resign immediately."
