Trump speaks on the future of Fed Chair Powell
US President Donald Trump stated that removing Fed Chair Jerome Powell from office is not likely for the time being.
Responding to questions from members of the press at the White House, US President Donald Trump shared his thoughts on the potential removal of Fed Chair Jerome Powell.
Trump stated that Powell was late in lowering interest rates and that he had nicknamed him "too late" for this reason. However, he said that they do not plan to take any steps for now and that this situation concerns them.
Criticizing Powell's performance, Trump indicated that they are waiting for the Fed chair's term to expire. Expressing that he has not completely ruled out the idea of removing Powell from office, Trump said, "I'm not taking anything off the table, but I don't think it's very likely unless he has to leave due to fraud."
According to reports in the US press, it was alleged that during a meeting with some Republican representatives in the Oval Office, Trump asked whether he should consider removing Powell, and that the representatives supported this idea. It was also reported that some representatives stated that Trump could make this decision.
