Trustee appointed to Hakkari Municipality: 10-day protest ban
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, it was announced that Hakkari Governor Ali Çelik has been appointed as a trustee to the Hakkari Municipality. Additionally, a 10-day ban on protests has been imposed.
A statement was issued by the Ministry of Interior following the detention of Hakkari Mayor Mehmet Sıddık Akış.
The statement announced that Akış has been suspended from his duties and that Hakkâri Governor Ali Çelik has been appointed as the Deputy Mayor of Hakkâri.
"HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FROM DUTY"
The statement is as follows:
"Hakkâri Mayor Mehmet Sıddık AKIŞ;
1. Held high-level positions within the PKK/KCK structure, conducted so-called interrogations and collected so-called taxes on behalf of the organization, organized illegal marches and terrorist funerals, pressured the public and shopkeepers to participate in these actions, and threatened shopkeepers who opposed closing their shutters on behalf of the PKK terrorist organization,
2. Took part in and was responsible for the neighborhood commissions of the PKK Separatist Terrorist Organization, maintained contact with rural areas, recruited young children into the organization by using ideological rhetoric, continued to provide aid and shelter in the center of Hakkâri, and hosted terrorists coming from the organization's rural areas to the center for the purpose of carrying out actions,
3. Visited the rural camps of the PKK Terrorist Organization and met with high-level members of the organization there, extorted money from citizens in the center of Hakkâri who were against the organization under the guise of so-called taxes, and threatened citizens with instructions received from the organization. In this context, regarding Mehmet Sıddık AKIŞ;
1. There is a case file at the Hakkâri 1st High Criminal Court with the file number 2014/173 for the crimes of Managing an Armed Terrorist Organization, Being a Member of an Armed Terrorist Organization, and Making Propaganda for the Organization, and the trial is ongoing,
2. There is an ongoing investigation opened by the Hakkâri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the crime of Being a Member of an Armed Terrorist Organization, and he has been detained within the scope of this investigation,
For these stated reasons; Mehmet Sıddık AKIŞ has been suspended from duty as a temporary measure by the Ministry of Interior in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393. In accordance with Articles 45 and 46 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, Hakkâri Governor Ali Çelik has been appointed as the Deputy Mayor of Hakkâri."
10-DAY PROTEST BAN
Following the detention of Mayor Akış, an announcement made by the Hakkari Governor's Office stated that meetings and demonstrations have been banned for 10 days, effective from 08:00 on 03.06.2024 until 23:59 on 12.06.2024.
