Trustee 'warning' to CHP from Nagehan Alçı: 'CHP is falling into a trap'
Journalist Nagehan Alçı spoke about the trustee appointment process that began with the CHP-run Esenyurt Municipality and continued with the DEM Party-run Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti municipalities. Alçı commented, "The CHP might be committing suicide."
Journalist Nagehan Alçı, in an article she penned regarding the appointment of trustees first to the CHP-run Esenyurt Municipality and subsequently to the Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti municipalities, made reference to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's visit to Mardin.
'THE DEM UMBRELLA HAS ALWAYS LED TO LOSSES'
"I find the wave of trustee appointments extremely dangerous and contrary to democracy," said Alçı, noting the following in her article today:
"If there are grave allegations regarding terrorism, they should of course be investigated within the framework of the law. But why all of a sudden now? And why are elections not held in municipal councils to replace those removed from office?
I understand and value the fierce struggle the CHP has put up against the wave that began with Esenyurt. But after a while, just as it was before the May 14 elections, the perception of a struggle for democracy could be replaced by a perception of supporting terrorism.
The CHP, which increasingly presents an image of standing side-by-side with the DEM, is falling into a trap. The DEM umbrella has always led to losses.
'ÖZGÜR ÖZEL WILL LOSE THE VOTES OF HIS OWN BASE'
Especially with Tuncer Bakırhan's references to Şeyh Sait and Seyit Rıza at the joint rally held with the CHP in Mardin yesterday... One could hardly provide more convenient material for the People's Alliance.
If the CHP continues to present an image together with the DEM Party, the internal rift will grow even larger. While Özgür Özel tries to win the votes of the 'other side,' he will lose the votes of his own base. This is an extremely annoying balance between populism and moral superiority."
