Tülay Hatimoğulları speaks at group meeting: 'The solution is not to bomb Iran'
DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları evaluated the possibility of an Iran-US-Israel war and the rising tension in the Middle East during her party's group meeting, emphasizing the need to build peace and democracy in the region.
In the scope of March 8 International Women's Day, only women were present in the hall at the DEM Party's group meeting in Parliament this year. Before the meeting began, a short video screening regarding the importance of the day was shown. Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları took the podium and made important statements regarding current international developments, women's rights, and demands for justice.
In her speech, Hatimoğulları also touched upon the report of the National Solidarity, Fraternity, and Democracy Commission. While conveying the developments occurring on an international scale regarding the freedom and safety of women and children, she also criticized the violence created by capitalist and male-dominated systems.
"The latest revelation of the capitalist male-dominated system is the Epstein file. This file is a breaking point that makes visible the hegemony of patriarchal capitalism and the states that defend it over the bodies of women and children. This dirty network has once again revealed how the male-dominated order protects its crimes and how it makes impunity systematic. No investigation has yet been launched into the individuals mentioned in the Epstein file in Turkey. This is shameful; an investigation must be launched immediately."
Referring to the recently increasing tension in the Middle East, Hatimoğulları pointed out that a potential war between Iran and the US-Israel alliance threatens the entire region.
"HIGH PROBABILITY OF ENGULFING THE REGION"
"(The Iran vs. US-Israel war) These wars are wars for the imperialist system to redesign itself on a global scale. Unfortunately, authoritarian regimes in the Middle East continue to be a part of these wars at the cost of the deaths of their own people, either by continuing to act as regional proxies for imperialist powers or by insisting on their authoritarianism in every sense.
While the US-Israel alliance was continuing negotiations at the table with Iran, an attack on Iran took place. The probability of this war engulfing the entire region is extremely high. It has already engulfed Iraq, Lebanon, and the Gulf countries. The region is being dragged into a bloody chaos. In these attacks, a girls' school in Iran was bombed, you all watched it. Approximately 170 girls were massacred in this school. Hundreds are wounded, and again, these are women's deaths, children's deaths, and the results of wars started by men. As women, we strongly condemn this attack."
THE SOLUTION IS NOT WAR, BUT DEMOCRACY
Criticizing the practices of the administration in Iran, Hatimoğulları stated that the solution should be sought through peaceful methods rather than oppression and violence.
"We are clearly against the oppressive and authoritarian approach of the mullah regime in Iran toward women, workers, laborers, and peoples. We never accept the harsh interventions they display against those who seek their rights on democratic grounds, but the solution is not for imperialist powers to bomb Iran. It is certainly not for the war to spread to the region and for a large number of civilians to be massacred.
The war started by the US-Israel alliance cannot be legitimized here. The fate of Iran will be determined by the peoples of Iran. It will be determined by Kurds, Azeris, and Persians. The US and Israel must end their attacks immediately. The parties must declare a ceasefire and return to the table immediately. The Iranian regime must fulfill the democratic demands of its own citizens—women, the poor, the youth, the Kurds, and all peoples—to the letter. The solution is not in war; the solution is the construction of a Democratic Iranian regime."
