Tunç Soyer's 'normalization' critique: 'It gave the AKP breathing room'

The "normalization process" strategy within the CHP continues to spark debate among party members.

Former İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, in a statement shared on his social media account, criticized this strategy on the grounds that it distances the CHP from its spirit of struggle.

''IT GAVE THE AKP BREATHING ROOM''

Soyer argued that thanks to the "normalization" steps, the government has found the opportunity to continue its policies and has gained legitimacy in the eyes of the voters. Stating that the CHP should have formed a strong opposition during this process, Soyer “The normalization policy, instead of leading the citizens' objections and dissent, has caused the government's policies to become normalized in the eyes of the citizens” he said.

"AN OPPOSITION OF STRUGGLE IS ESSENTIAL"

Soyer emphasized that in order for the AKP to be removed from power, a return to an "opposition of struggle"is necessary. By calling for early general elections, he suggested that the CHP should make the goal of "toppling the government" its top priority to become the hope of the citizens. He stated, "The CHP must join the struggle of millions who live by fighting against the government's policies every day, and must be a breath of fresh air in this struggle."

"CONCRETE SOLUTIONS ARE EXPECTED"

Soyer noted that citizens expect the CHP to take concrete steps toward solving fundamental problems such as inflation, unemployment, the cost of living, education, and healthcare. In this context, he expressed that the party should embark on an effort to form a broad opposition bloc, such as a "Turkey Alliance."

THE CHP MUST BE THE HOPE OF THE CITIZENS

At the end of his statement, Tunç Soyer asserted that the CHP must succeed in becoming the hope of the people, saying, "A 101-year-old political party must normalize with every citizen and be a source of hope for everyone who has lost hope in the government."
