Tuncer Bakırhan’s statement on the framework law: 'Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ will return'
DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan stated that with the implementation of the framework law, Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ will participate in political life.
DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan made evaluations regarding the “Terror-Free Turkey” process and the “framework law” adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Bakırhan said they expect the official stages of the process to be completed by the end of September or the beginning of October and for the law to be implemented.
Speaking to Rudaw, Bakırhan stated that with the implementation of the law, former HDP Co-Chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ will also be included in political life. Bakırhan said, “Demirtaş, Yüksekdağ, and thousands of our friends; those who will return from exile, and many of our friends from other areas of struggle will participate in political life.”
Bakırhan emphasized that the process in question does not consist solely of legal and political headings, and that managing social psychology correctly is of critical importance.
''This issue has a painful history of over forty years in Turkey; this history has left deep marks on both sides of the country. No one in this country has the luxury of underestimating the concerns of the other.''
CONGRESS AND NEW ERA MESSAGE
Touching upon the congress that the DEM Party will hold on September 6-7, Bakırhan stated that they aim to create a staff and political language suitable for the new era in the party. Stating that the congress should not be seen merely as an internal party renewal, Bakırhan emphasized democratic politics.
Arguing that security-centered policies narrow the democratic space, Bakırhan expressed that the “people’s will for a solution” and democratic politics will be decisive in the coming period. He stated that the process means both an opportunity and a responsibility for the party.
Evaluating the support given to the 12-article regulation accepted in the TBMM, Bakırhan said that support at the level of party chairmen is important, but that the different attitudes emerging among members of parliament have created a debate in terms of opposition politics.
