Turgut Altınok misquotes the 6th stanza of the National Anthem
AKP's Ankara Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Turgut Altınok misquoted the 6th stanza of the National Anthem during a television program he attended. The attempts by the program's other guest, pop singer Sinan Akçıl, to assist him were also insufficient.
Keçiören Mayor and AKP Ankara Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Turgut Altınok was a guest on Mehmet Akif Ersoy's program on Habertürk.
"YOU ARE THE SON OF A MARTYR, EVEN IF YOU TAKE THE WORLDS"
Altınok misquoted the sixth stanza of the National Anthem, saying, “Do not pass by the places you tread calling them soil, recognize them, think of the thousands lying without a shroud underneath, you are the son of a martyr, even if you take the worlds, do not give up this heavenly homeland.”
The efforts of Sinan Akçıl, another guest on the program who has recently been in the spotlight for his closeness to the AKP, to assist Altınok were also insufficient.
The fact that Altınok, the rival of CHP's Mansur Yavaş, misquoted the National Anthem became a trending topic on social media. The correct version of the sixth stanza of the National Anthem, which the AKP candidate misquoted, is as follows:
“Do not pass by the places you tread calling them “soil”, recognize them,
Think of the thousands lying without a shroud underneath.
You are the son of a martyr, do not hurt, it is a pity for your ancestor,
Do not give up, even if you take the worlds, this heavenly homeland.”
