Turkish Parliament to convene in extraordinary session: Mahmoud Abbas to address the General Assembly
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will address the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) on August 15 as part of his visit to Turkey. Additionally, the Parliament is expected to convene in an extraordinary session following the Constitutional Court's ruling regarding Can Atalay, whose parliamentary membership was revoked.
The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), which is currently in recess, will convene in an extraordinary session due to the visit of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Turkey. Abbas, who will visit Turkey on August 14-15, will address the TBMM General Assembly on Thursday, August 15.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also expected to attend the extraordinary session called by Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş. It is understood that the meeting will begin with an address by Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, followed by an address to the General Assembly by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Due to this extraordinary session, security measures around the TBMM and its campus will be raised to the highest level, and additional precautions will be taken. No visitors other than those invited will be admitted to the TBMM.
CAN ATALAY CASE
On the other hand, following the publication of the Constitutional Court's ruling in the Official Gazette regarding Can Atalay, who was elected as a Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) deputy from Hatay and subsequently had his parliamentary membership revoked, representatives from the CHP, DEVA Party, Saadet Party, Future Party, Democrat Party, TİP, and EMEP had submitted a petition for the TBMM to convene in an extraordinary session. Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş is expected to accept this request. The extraordinary session is anticipated to be held on Friday, August 16.
DIGITAL MEDIA COMMISSION TO CONVENE
Furthermore, the TBMM Digital Media Commission will convene in an extraordinary session on Friday, August 16, upon the request of members from the CHP, İYİ Party, and DEM Party, to discuss the access ban imposed on Instagram and other developments in digital media.
