Tuzla Municipality to evict buildings allocated to the Ilim Yayma Society: 'For the needs of our people'

Tuzla Municipality has taken action for the evacuation of the buildings in the Evliya Çelebi and Aydıntepe neighborhoods, which were allocated to the Ilim Yayma Society in 2014, with rent payments covered using municipal resources.

In the notices sent to the Ilim Yayma Society, it was stated that the lease agreements would not be renewed, and it was requested that the buildings be evacuated and handed over in full by November 10, 2024.

THE MUNICIPALITY WAS PAYING THE RENT

The buildings located in the Evliya Çelebi and Aydıntepe neighborhoods, which were leased to the Ilim Yayma Society in 2014, have been used as dormitories for a long time, and their rents were paid from municipal resources under the authority of the previous mayor, Şadi Yazıcı.

EVACUATION AND FULL HANDOVER REQUESTED

Tuzla Municipality requested the evacuation of the properties located in the Evliya Çelebi and Aydıntepe neighborhoods in accordance with the Municipal Council Decisions No. 164 and 165 dated October 17, 2014, and the “Education, Social and Cultural Cooperation Protocol” dated November 10, 2024.

The formal notice stated that the duration of the protocol was 10 years and would expire on November 10, 2024, and included the statement: “In accordance with clause ‘p’ titled ‘Obligations’ of the protocol, the Society shall hand over and transfer the property in full, without requesting any expenses from the municipality.”

“WE WILL USE THE RESOURCES FOR OUR PEOPLE”

Tuzla Mayor Eren Ali Bingöl made the following statement regarding the matter:

“As Tuzla Municipality, we want the properties to be evacuated in order to provide the best service to our people. The lease term for the buildings rented to the Ilim Yayma Society has expired. Our municipality has no obligation to pay these rents. We will now use the resources previously allocated here for the needs of our people. This process is part of our goal to ensure the resource management and transparency of our municipality. We hope that the handover process will be completed smoothly, and we will work in cooperation with all parties on this matter.”
