Uğur Bayraktutan: Başaran Aksu has begun an indefinite hunger strike at Sincan Prison
YENİ Party Artvin Deputy Uğur Bayraktutan announced that Başaran Aksu, whom he visited at Sincan Prison, has begun a hunger strike.
YENİ Party Artvin Deputy Uğur Bayraktutan visited Başaran Aksu, the Education and Organization Officer of the Independent Mine Workers' Union, at Sincan Prison where he is being held.
Following the visit, Bayraktutan stated that Aksu had begun an indefinite hunger strike to protest interventions against trade union rights.
According to Bayraktutan, Aksu began the hunger strike as of 17:00 the previous day.
Bayraktutan expressed his reaction to the detention, stating that Aksu was exercising his trade union rights, which are guaranteed by Article 51 of the Constitution.
Bayraktutan said, "This brother of ours, who is seeking his rights and fighting for the union, is facing an unjust detention measure. It is not a detention; it is actually a punishment."
Stating that Aksu sent his greetings from prison, Bayraktutan declared, "Başaran Aksu is not alone; we are always by his side. We will continue to stand by him until the end in this struggle for rights."
