Ümit Özdağ reacts to police intervention at Güvenpark: “Why are you so afraid of these veterans?”

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, in a statement made at his party's Yenimahalle District Office, reacted to the police intervention against relatives of fallen soldiers and veterans who were holding a sit-in protest at Ankara's Güvenpark.

Criticizing the intervention on the 38th day of the protest, Özdağ stated, “Why are you so afraid of these veterans? These people gave their lives so that the state and the nation could live. They gave their legs, they gave their arms, they gave their eyes. Why are you now preventing them from making a statement in front of the Ministry of Interior?”

In his statement, Özdağ also touched upon the demonstrations held on August 15 in some cities, which he claimed were organized to mark the anniversary of the PKK's first armed action. Addressing Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, Özdağ asked why no investigation had been launched into the DEM Party deputies who announced these events on social media.

Also reacting to the operation against the Furkan Foundation, Özdağ alleged that the news of the operation was learned earlier from an X post by one of the President's advisors. “If a community or a religious order does not support the government, it is not considered a community or a religious order. We have understood this,” said Özdağ.

CRITICISM ON SYRIA AND MHP

Under the heading of developments in Syria, Özdağ claimed that Israeli warplanes had struck a military base and an airport in Idlib, arguing that the attack was directed at Turkey. Asking the government how Israeli planes were allowed to get so close to the Turkish border, Özdağ asserted that Turkey's deterrence in Syria has become questionable.

Özdağ also reacted to the claim that Semir Asu, codenamed “Sipan Hemo,” had been removed from Turkey's terrorist wanted list. Stating that Asu had been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Defense in Syria, Özdağ asked, “Which other murderers will you quietly remove from the wanted lists?”

Also criticizing the MHP, Özdağ took issue with MHP Parliamentary Group Chief Advisor Yaşar İçen sharing a “get well soon” message on social media following a drone attack on the office of Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq.

Özdağ also brought up the “framework law” statement made by Orhan Piruzbeyoğlu, leader of the Pinyaniş tribe from Hakkari, following his visit to MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, and said that they had not seen a clear denial from the MHP Headquarters on this matter.

Making assessments regarding the economy, Özdağ shared his impressions from his visits to tradesmen in Ankara, arguing that citizens are facing a dire economic situation. “There can be no economic development where there is no rule of law,” said Özdağ.
