Ümit Özdağ speaks out on Can Atalay and Gezi Park! He addresses 'Turkish nationalists'

The parliamentary status of Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Hatay MP Can Atalay, who was not released despite the Constitutional Court (AYM) issuing two separate rulings of rights violations regarding him, has been revoked.

Zafer Party leader Özdağ published a statement on his social media account regarding the revocation of Atalay's parliamentary status.

Underlining that all actions of the state must be in accordance with the constitution, Özdağ emphasized the rule of law.

"The Constitutional Court did not say that Can Atalay is innocent, and it cannot say that. It stated that there is no obstacle to his parliamentary membership," said Özdağ, adding, "Even if the Constitutional Court's decision were wrong, it should have been implemented for the continuation of the constitutional system and the stability of the state."

"GEZI WAS A LEGITIMATE AND DEMOCRATIC RESISTANCE"

Touching upon the Gezi Park protests, Özdağ stated, "The resistance of the youth who took to the streets during Gezi was a legitimate and democratic resistance. The foundations of the provocation in Gezi were laid by the AKP, which handed the state over to FETÖ and allowed foreign intelligence services to infiltrate it."

Özdağ's statement is as follows;

• The fundamental characteristic of all states, from the most primitive to the modern, is that they are based on a legal system. Their existence as a state is only possible by accepting that they are bound by their own laws.
• In modern state systems, the constitution forms the basis of law. All actions of the state must be in accordance with the constitution.
• For nationalists, the state is the most important institution. Because the independence of a nation is only possible by having a state.
• Since everything that erodes the foundations of the state will harm the nation, the first duty of a nationalist is to oppose violations of the constitution, which is one of the actions that will harm the state the most.
• It is unacceptable for a Turkish nationalist not to defend the national, unitary, and secular Constitution, which is the living form of both Turkish tradition and today's Turkish tradition.
• Can Atalay may indeed be guilty. During the Gezi events, I also heard from judges, prosecutors, police officers, and intelligence officers who do not feel the slightest sympathy for Erdoğan that foreign intelligence services provoked the events.
• On the other hand, the resistance of the youth who took to the streets during Gezi was a legitimate and democratic resistance. The foundations of the provocation in Gezi were laid by the AKP, which handed the state over to FETÖ and allowed foreign intelligence services to infiltrate it.
• The issue here is the execution of the sentence in accordance with the constitutional order before the criminal law punishment of a criminal.
