Unease in the MHP: Güller says, 'No chance outside the alliance'

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's advisor and Türkgün Newspaper's chief columnist Yıldıray Çiçek's remarks regarding security institutions have brought the unease within the party back to the agenda. Çiçek drew attention with the words, "The TSK (Turkish Armed Forces), the Police, and intelligence are the most vital areas in protecting our nation's security. No one who does not base their actions on the existence, security, and future of the Turkish nation, and whose body is here but whose soul is elsewhere, should be harbored in these critical areas, nor should they ever be granted influence or authority in this vital field. If the July 15 treacherous coup attempt was not a lesson and experience in state administration, what more needs to happen?"

Journalist and author Mehmet Ali Güller stated that recent operations targeting figures close to the MHP, purges within the police force, and appointments within the TSK have created unrest within the party. According to Güller, the MHP cannot enter a position of "rebellion" in the face of these developments. This is because, even if some of its cadres are trimmed, the party's effectiveness within the state is dependent on its position in the People's Alliance.

Mehmet Ali Güller pointed to the party's dependency on the alliance by saying, "Bahçeli and the MHP have little chance outside the People's Alliance."
