Deniz Gezmiş, one of the most iconic figures in Turkey's recent political history, is being commemorated on the 52nd anniversary of his execution.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel will also attend the commemoration ceremony for Gezmiş at the Karşıyaka Cemetery in Ankara.
Mustafa Yalçıner, a friend of Deniz Gezmiş from the 1968 era, also celebrated Deniz Gezmiş's 77th birthday in a post on his social media account.
Yalçıner included the following statements in his social media post:
"Our Deniz, together with his dear comrade Cihan Alptekin. Happy birthday, my dear brother. As you said in your final moment: 'Long live the glorious ideology of Marxism-Leninism'"
Yalçıner also shared a little-known photo of Deniz Gezmiş. In the photo, Deniz Gezmiş's bearded appearance stands out.
