Vatan Party proposes amnesty for PKK terrorists

Vatan Party Secretary General Özgür Bursalı shared the draft amnesty law they prepared for members of the PKK terrorist organization with the public during a press conference in Diyarbakır. The 15-article proposal, titled "Amnesty Law Regarding the Integration of Members of the Disbanded PKK Terrorist Organization with the State and Society," aims to open a new chapter for organization members who lay down their arms.

"THIS IS NOT A SENTENCE REDUCTION, BUT A LAW FOR SOCIAL PEACE"

Speaking at the press conference, Bursalı summarized the purpose of the draft law as "offering an opportunity to those who choose to integrate with the state and the nation through their own individual will." It will be sufficient for those wishing to benefit from the amnesty to declare this intent via a written petition or official records. Bursalı emphasized that this law is not merely a sentence reduction, but an important step toward consolidating national unity.

"THE PKK'S HISTORICAL MISSION HAS ENDED"

Referring to the statement made by organization leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 27, 2025, Özgür Bursalı said, "Öcalan has now declared that the PKK has lost its historical foundation. The dissolution decision on May 12 and the disarmament ceremony held in Sulaymaniyah on July 11 could be a sign of a new era for Turkey."

Bursalı stated, "We must now build not just a Turkey without terrorism, but an integrated Turkey. Our national democratic revolution line, which has been ongoing since the 19th century, aims for all citizens to unite under the identity of the Turkish nation."

Another notable topic at the press conference was the practices regarding PKK members who surrender. Bursalı remarked, "Life sentences do not strengthen the internal front, nor do they serve social peace. The state's compassionate hand should reach out to those who lay down their arms. Current practices are already moving in this direction."
