CHP's Ocaklı greets Minister Şimşek with an abacus: 'TÜİK doesn't know how to calculate'
CHP MP Tahsin Ocaklı greeted Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek at the Parliament with an abacus. This humorous gesture during the budget negotiations was followed by criticisms regarding food inflation and economic performance.
Budget negotiations for the Ministry of Treasury and Finance have begun at the Parliament's Planning and Budget Committee.
During the initial greetings, CHP Rize MP Tahsin Ocaklı welcomed Minister Mehmet Şimşek with an abacus, saying, "I think TÜİK doesn't know how to calculate, let's give you an abacus to teach you how to calculate."
CHP's Veli Ağbaba also greeted Minister Şimşek by saying, "Osman Bak didn't win a gold medal at the Olympics, but you did, Mr. Minister. We are first in Europe in food inflation, we congratulate you. Thanks to you, we are first in many areas. We are first in interest rates, we are first in inflation. Before switching to a rational economy, inflation was 38 percent, now it is 48 percent, we congratulate you."
