Oğuz Kaan Salıcı accuses party spokesperson Yücel of 'lack of decorum': 'In the 100-year history of the CHP'

Oğuz Kaan Salıcı, whose call for a congress was criticized by his party's Chairman Özgür Özel himself and responded to with harsh language by the party spokesperson, appeared on the program Geniş Açı on Ekoltv.

Salıcı made statements regarding the post he shared, stating that his remarks did not constitute a call for an extraordinary congress, and accused CHP Party Spokesperson Deniz Yücel of 'lack of decorum'.

Here are those statements made by Oğuz Kaan Salıcı:

"I attended a television program and made some statements to a journalist friend of mine. I told him that the so-called 'normalization' process was not a topic discussed before the congress, and I commented that 'I would have liked these processes to be discussed at the congress.' When my journalist friend asked, 'Would you like a congress to be held where these processes are discussed?', I replied, 'It would be extremely elegant if our Chairman also wanted that.'

There was no normalization while heading into the March 31 elections; this process started after the election, and there is discomfort about this within our own base...

Following this, the Chairman gave an interview saying, 'they shouldn't beg for a congress'; a person does not have a demand for a congress, a general request is required for that. However, our Chairman made statements directly targeting me in the interview he gave. I do not find it appropriate for a Chairman to say such things to a party member who acts alongside him; I do not find it right to engage in polemics with the Chairman anyway! I also do not find it right for a Chairman to engage in polemics with his deputy...

Then I made a post regarding the congress issue, and subsequently, a statement came from our party spokesperson, which is probably the most lacking in decorum statement ever made within the 100-year history of the CHP towards the party or its own deputy!

I did not say this because it is my personal issue; I conveyed it because I saw it in the party's base. I am not speaking with street slang; our party is important, and if we see a mistake, we say it and pay attention to our level of decorum. If we do not act this way, if we do not pay attention to our level of decorum, this place becomes a friends' club, a club for those who like someone, which is not what the CHP has ever been.

What I am saying is clear; I am criticizing the party's policies, I am explaining the issues regarding the party's policies that do not sit right with me. I expressed that normalization is a problematic process. There was a call for us to stand up for the President; I did not enter the parliament, and subsequently, trustees were appointed, meaning we stood up before an authority that appointed trustees to our party.

We did not win the local elections by saying we would go for normalization; we put forward our own theses, and our mayors had superior efforts.

While these processes were taking place, there were no talks or discussions of normalization, no meeting to shake hands with Erdoğan, and no such expectation within the party.

In the speech in front of the Turkish House... It is not normal for us to shield something that has been subjected to a bribery investigation by America; we are an opposition party, we are not a party to the issue. Even if such a thing exists, we should not shield it because we are not part of it in any way.

If someone has made a mistake, it is not our job to shield them. I criticized these mistakes I saw in a polite language. Then a very harsh criticism came from our party spokesperson, Mr. Deniz; I think it is the most lacking in decorum statement made by the party headquarters to one of its own party members...

You may be saying those words to Oğuz Kaan Salıcı, but these words are directed at everyone who wants to express their concern within the party...

The issue was taken out of context; while it should have been a policy debate, the issue was reduced to 'he called for a congress'.

When congresses are not held in parties, or cannot be held, those parties can disintegrate; we saw this in the MHP. The IYI Party emerged.

The conditions for a congress are met, and then a congress is held. My text did not contain expressions that would open a congress debate. If you bring this to the dimension of personal interests, you harm the party.
