Mehmet Ali Çelebi, who was elected as a deputy from the CHP and subsequently moved to the Homeland Party and then to the AKP, has made his long-awaited statement.
Çelebi, who spent 41 months in prison as part of the Ergenekon conspiracy case, broke his silence on the parliamentary podium while there was curiosity regarding his views on the AKP's alleged alliance with the DEM Party and a possible new peace process.
Praising AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Çelebi described Erdoğan's leadership as a "historical mission" in his speech.
Defending his decision to join the ranks of the AKP as a choice to "stand with the nation," Çelebi claimed that Erdoğan has transformed Turkey into a "regional power."
