Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, who responded to MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call for a 100-member commission in Parliament by stating, 'Mr. Bahçeli's signal is a natural outcome of the process, following the wishes previously expressed by the CHP, the DEM Party, and other political parties that this matter should be discussed in Parliament,' is visiting Bahçeli.
HE MET WITH THE DEM PARTY YESTERDAY
Yesterday, a DEM Party delegation visited the MHP in Parliament, and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli also attended the meeting. In the statement made by the DEM Party delegation regarding the meeting, it was stated that the dissolution of the terrorist organization PKK, the judicial package, the commission planned to be established in Parliament, and constitutional efforts were discussed.
'OF CRITICAL IMPORTANCE'
In the statement made by the DEM Party, it was said, 'Steps that need to be taken for the process to progress, the role the Parliament will undertake, the new judicial package, the commission expected to be established in Parliament, and issues such as the constitution were discussed. It was emphasized that the establishment of a fully authorized commission within the TBMM, as called for by Bahçeli, and the adoption of a method that will ensure political parties are actively involved in this process are of critical importance.'
WHAT HAPPENED?
A new era had begun in the process that started with the historic call made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli in Parliament, following the decision of the terrorist organization PKK to lay down arms and dissolve. Continuing to make important statements as the process unfolds, Devlet Bahçeli had proposed the establishment of a 100-member commission in Parliament.
100-MEMBER COMMISSION PROPOSAL
In his written statement, Bahçeli said, 'To determine the roadmap for the upcoming period, the most logical option is to establish a commission with the participation of political parties representing all segments of society in the TBMM, which is the manifestation of the national will, along with constitutional duty, authority, and responsibility. It is our sincere proposal and wish that a 'New Century's Terror-Free Turkey Strategy; National Unity and Solidarity Commission' be established upon the call of the Parliament Speaker, in accordance with parliamentary customs. The commission, which will include representatives from the 16 political parties represented in the Grand National Assembly, should consist of 100 members, and sub-commissions should be established according to working conditions.'
HE HAD SAID 'IT SHOULD BE DISCUSSED IN PARLIAMENT'
While this proposal by Bahçeli drew attention on the political agenda, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş had stated, 'Once it is fully seen by the public that the terrorist organization has laid down its arms, the process of political negotiation regarding this will begin. This is where the TBMM will step in. Mr. Bahçeli's signal is a natural outcome of the process, following the wishes previously expressed by the CHP, the DEM Party, and other political parties that this matter should be discussed in Parliament. It will be a process where what the subject is, how it will develop, and where it will evolve will also need to be discussed politically. Of course, the address for this is the TBMM, which is the center of politics.'
