Wave of detentions continues in İBB investigation: Numbers keep rising
The number of people detained as part of the investigation launched over allegations of "bribery" and "bid rigging" targeting Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has risen to 17.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has authorised a new operation as part of its bribery and bid-rigging investigation targeting Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). Detention orders were issued for 18 people within the scope of the investigation.
DETENTION COUNT RISES TO 17
Fifteen of those for whom detention orders were issued had been apprehended in the first operation carried out on 18 July. With the second wave of operations conducted today, the total number of those detained has risen to 17. One person for whom a detention order remains outstanding is still being sought.
SEARCH AND SEIZURE ORDERS ALSO ISSUED
The investigation did not stop at detention orders alone; instructions were also given to search addresses belonging to suspects and to seize materials deemed to constitute evidence. In line with the prosecutor's office decision, teams simultaneously raided a large number of addresses.
Those detained are expected to be transferred to the Istanbul Justice Palace tomorrow morning.
15 PEOPLE WERE ALSO DETAINED IN THE FIRST WAVE
These operations targeting Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality began on 18 July. In the first operation carried out that day, 15 people were detained.
