'We will not shake the hands of those sitting in the palace, we will fight,' he had said
Answering questions after his visit to the Adalar Municipality, CHP leader Özgür Özel responded to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's remarks that municipalities' debts would be collected by the ministry.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited the CHP Adalar District Office and the Adalar Municipality. Özel answered questions from journalists.
Özgür Özel responded to President Erdoğan's 'Collection is starting' threat by saying, "These are cheap games; this time they are trying to stage a financial coup."
Highlights from Özel's speech are as follows:
"All the municipalities we took from them had never paid their debts. The nation voted for us because they were tired of this mentality. Which AK Party municipality has paid its debts until now?
These are cheap games. They are trying to make our municipalities unable to function so that we do not come to power. In 2019, they carried out a 'judicial coup' against İmamoğlu via the YSK. They received a democratic slap in the face. If they try to carry out a 'financial coup' over SGK debts this time to make the municipality unable to function, they will receive a democratic slap in the face again. We will collect the trash with our own hands, but we will not bow to his blackmail."
RESPONSE TO KILIÇDAROĞLU QUESTION
Regarding the words of former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, "We will not shake the hands of those sitting in the palace, we will fight. Democracy is not given as a favor. Democracy comes with determined struggle," Özel said the following:
"I do not take Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's assessments personally. The first party is responsible for Turkey's polarization. I became the first party on March 31, and for this reason, I took a step. Mr. Kemal was never the leader of the first party; we worked very hard, but it did not happen. We have not become like Erdoğan, who is the first party and does not shake the hands of the second party."
