What is the penalty for not voting in local elections?

There are 4 days left until the March 31 local elections.

According to Article 25 of Law No. 298 on the Basic Provisions of Elections and Voter Registers, voting is mandatory in Turkey, and a penalty is applied by the YSK (Supreme Election Council) in cases where voting does not take place. 

HOW MUCH IS THE FINE FOR NOT VOTING?

In the election where 61 million voters are expected to cast their ballots, the fine for not voting was announced as 22 TL in a statement made in 2010. 

On the other hand, the fine for not voting in the 2023 general elections was set at 300 liras. 

A penalty notice is sent to voters who do not cast their ballots, and payment transactions are carried out through institutions such as the Ministry of Treasury and Finance or the PTT.
