Turkey will head to the polls for local elections on March 31, 2024. Istanbul, home to 16 million people, is at the top of the list of cities where the critical elections are most closely watched.

MULTI-CANDIDATE ELECTION RACE IN ISTANBUL

In order to win back Istanbul, which it lost in 2019, the AKP has fielded Murat Kurum against the incumbent IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The İYİ Party, which decided to enter the local elections 'freely and independently', has nominated Buğra Kavuncu. Yeniden Refah Party candidate Mehmet Altınöz, Saadet Party candidate Birol Aydın, Zafer Party candidate Azmi Karamahmutoğlu, and DEM Party candidates Meral Danış Beştaş and Murat Çepni will also enter the race.

In 5 of the polls conducted by the 6 companies, the CHP candidate and incumbent IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu came out ahead.
