Who do voters want: Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu or Özgür Özel? Survey results revealed

Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi shared the results of a public opinion poll conducted by Optimar between October 15-18, which involved face-to-face interviews with 2,000 people across Turkey, in his column today.

DO CITIZENS WANT ALLIANCES?

When asked, "In your opinion, is it a more effective strategy for political parties to field their own candidates or to combine their forces by forming an alliance?", 49.4 percent of participants responded that "fielding their own candidates is more effective," while 35.6 percent said "combining their forces by forming an alliance is more effective." The percentage of those who said "I have no opinion" was 15 percent.

AKP WANTS TO ENTER ELECTIONS WITH ITS OWN CANDIDATES, CHP WITH AN ALLIANCE

The tendencies of the parties regarding whether to enter elections through alliances or with their own candidates vary. While 58.5 percent of AKP supporters stated that it is more effective for parties to field their own candidates, those who support an alliance stand at 28.1 percent. This picture is completely reversed for the CHP. While 51.4 percent of CHP supporters advocate for entering elections by forming an alliance, the rate of those who say "they should field their own candidate" is 34.6 percent. While 47.7 percent of MHP supporters support the proposal to enter elections with their own candidates, the rate of those who want them to enter as an alliance is 43.6 percent.

ALLIANCE DEMAND IN IYI PARTY IS APPROXIMATELY 35 PERCENT

There are striking data for the IYI Party, which has decided to enter local elections with its own candidates. 63.5 percent of IYI Party supporters want the party to enter the elections with its own candidates. The rate of those who advocate for an alliance remains at 34.7 percent. In this case, the IYI Party management's decision to enter the elections with its own candidates aligns with voter tendencies.

WHAT DOES HEDEP VOTER SAY ABOUT ALLIANCES?

A similar situation is occurring in the Green Left Party (Yeşil Sol Parti). In the party, which changed its name to HEDEP at its congress, the rate of those who want to enter the elections with their own candidates is 48 percent, while the rate of those who support alliances is 40.8 percent. The tendency of HEDEP voters is also in favor of entering the elections with their own candidates rather than through alliances.

"IS THE CANDIDATE IMPORTANT OR THE PARTY?"

When asked "Is the candidate important or the party?", the rate of those who said "party" was 21.5 percent, while the rate of those who said both "party and candidate" was 44.2 percent.

25.6 percent of AKP supporters said party, while 46.9 percent said candidate. The rate of those who said both party and candidate was 21.8 percent. In the CHP, the rate of those who said party is 19.6 percent, and the rate of those who said candidate reaches 37.8 percent. The rate of those who said both party and candidate is 36.6 percent. In the MHP, the rate of those who said party is 37.6 percent, and those who said candidate reach 44.5 percent. The rate of those who said both party and candidate remains at 13.9 percent. In the IYI Party, the rate of those who said party remains at 24.3 percent, while the rate of those who said candidate reaches 42 percent. Those who said both party and candidate reach 32 percent. In HEDEP, the rate of those who said party is 29.3 percent, while the rate of those who said candidate reaches 40 percent. The rate of those who said both party and candidate remains at 26.7 percent.

65.7 PERCENT SAY "KILIÇDAROĞLU SHOULD NOT CONTINUE"

65.7 percent of those who participated in the survey say "Kılıçdaroğlu should not continue." The rate of those who say "he should continue" remains at 24 percent. The rate of those who say "Kılıçdaroğlu should go" is higher within the CHP. While 70.6 percent of CHP supporters say "Kılıçdaroğlu should go," the rate of those who say "he should stay" remains at 23.9 percent.

ÖZEL OR KILIÇDAROĞLU?

In the congress on November 5, Kılıçdaroğlu will compete against Özgür Özel, the candidate of the change-seekers. While 37.3 percent of those who participated in the survey said "Özgür Özel," the rate of those who want Kılıçdaroğlu is 24.3 percent.

"THE SURVEY WAS NOT CONDUCTED ON CHP DELEGATES"

In the remainder of his article, Selvi stated, "This survey was not conducted on CHP delegates. These rates reflect the Turkey average. But what will come out of the CHP congress, the CHP delegates will decide that."
