Manisa MP and former Minister of Family and Social Services Selma Aliye Kavaf has joined the CHP. Kavaf, who resigned from the DEVA Party in recent weeks, will attend the CHP's parliamentary group meeting today.

WHO IS SELMA ALİYE KAVAF?

Selma Aliye Kavaf was born in Denizli in 1962. After completing her education at Denizli High School, she graduated from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Ankara University's Faculty of Language, History and Geography in 1985. Kavaf worked as a teacher in private tutoring centers until 1991, and between 1991 and 2002, she taught at high schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.

Selma Aliye Kavaf, who was a parliamentary candidate for the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) from Denizli in 2002, assumed the role of Founding Chairwoman of the party's Women's Branch at the headquarters in 2003. Elected as a 23rd-term MP from Denizli in the 2007 elections, Kavaf served in roles such as President of the TBMM Peru Friendship Group and Spokesperson for the Health Committee.

In 2009, she was appointed as the State Minister Responsible for Women and Family, and served as the President of the Joint Economic Councils for Congo, Jordan, and Albania. After her ministerial term ended, she took a break from politics. In 2014, she completed a master's degree with a thesis in the History Department of Hacettepe University's Institute of Social Sciences, and in 2015, she began a doctoral program in the same department at the same university.

She was among the founding members of the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA Party), which was established by Ali Babacan on March 9, 2020. Kavaf, who has an intermediate level of English, is married and a mother of one.
