YENİ Party Chairman Özgür Özel on Üsküdar elections: “The process is moving step by step toward the IMM”

Özgür Özel made assessments regarding the agenda during a live broadcast on Koza TV. Reacting to the election process at Üsküdar Municipality, Özel announced that they have filed a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

YENİ Party Chairman Özel argued that “everything that should not happen in the name of democracy” took place in Üsküdar, stating that the CHP candidate won the election held on August 5 following the arrest of the mayor, and that the election was renewed upon the objection of the AK Party.

THEY CANCELED THE ELECTION WE WON

Claiming that some individuals were arrested and unable to vote during the second round of the process, Özel also alleged that negotiations were held with certain names within the party. Özel said, “They canceled the election we won. When it was held for the second time, they arrested 2 people so they could not vote. In the final round, two more people switched sides.”

Arguing that a perception has been created that Üsküdar Municipality has effectively passed to the AKP, Özel stated that the elected mayor, Sinem Dedetaş, remains away from her post due to a detention measure.

Özel stated, “Üsküdar Municipality has not actually passed to the AK Party. Sinem Dedetaş is the elected mayor.”

Responding to the question, “Will the same process work for the IMM?”, Özel stated that operations against municipal council members in Istanbul are ongoing, and that what happened in Üsküdar should be considered a warning for other municipalities as well.

Özgür Özel said, “When you look at the course of this, because operations are constantly being carried out against our friends who make up the municipal council in Istanbul, this is an early detection that the course of such a matter is moving step by step toward there. What is there to stop them from doing to other municipalities what they did to Üsküdar?”
