Karaburun Mayor İlkay Girgin Erdoğan has announced that she has left the YENİ Party and will continue her duties as mayor as an independent. Erdoğan stated that her decision would not change her goal of serving Karaburun or her responsibility toward the district's residents.
In a statement shared on her social media account, Erdoğan expressed that throughout her political career, she has always prioritized serving Karaburun and its residents.
Stating that she will continue her mayoral duties as an independent, Erdoğan included the following in her statement:
"STATEMENT TO THE PUBLIC
Throughout my political life, regardless of the position I have held, my priority has always been to serve Karaburun and my fellow citizens.
I have held the respect I have for the will of our people, common sense, and the public interest above all my responsibilities. I will continue to act with this same understanding from now on, just as I have until today.
At this point, as a result of my evaluations, I have decided to resign from my YENİ Party membership.
This decision does not mean any change in my commitment to Karaburun, the responsibility I bear toward my fellow citizens, or my determination to work for the future of our district.
I will continue my duty as the Mayor of Karaburun as an independent.
What is essential for us is the needs of Karaburun, the expectations of our fellow citizens, and the future of our district. Just as I have until today, I will continue to be the mayor for all our fellow citizens without discrimination, and to work and produce for Karaburun.
I respectfully announce this to the public.
