YENİ Party's Özgür Karabat on the 'fund crisis': Give us the task, we will announce the list in twenty-five minutes

YENİ Party Istanbul MP Özgür Karabat brought the developments in capital markets, known in the public eye as the "fund crisis," to the agenda during his speech at the TBMM General Assembly. Arguing that transparency has not been maintained in the process, Karabat demanded that the undisclosed lists be shared with the public.

Questioning why the lists have not been disclosed, Karabat said, "Who does this matter reach that you are hesitant? What are you afraid of? Give us the task, and we will announce in twenty-five minutes the shares you have not disclosed for twenty-five days. It is that simple, but you have no intention to do so."

Claiming that Turkey has been turned into a "party state," Karabat addressed the authorities, asking, "What are you hiding, what are you concealing?" Arguing that the lack of disclosure does not stem from a technical difficulty, Karabat asserted that this is a political choice.

CRITICISM OF THE BILL

Karabat also criticized the legislative proposal submitted to the TBMM by the AK Party last week following the developments in capital markets. Arguing that the 1 million lira limit included in the proposal is being misrepresented to the public, Karabat stated that this is not a fixed payment to be made to everyone, but an upper limit.

Stating that the proposal regulates payments according to the current value of the shares, Karabat used the expression, "I will not give 1 million to everyone, I will give a maximum of 1 million." Expressing that payments will be made based on how much money can be collected from the fund, Karabat assessed, "There is no schedule here, there is no guarantee here."

Reacting to statements that public resources would not be used, Karabat claimed that public funds would be transferred through Emlak Katılım Bank. Pointing to the 12 billion lira purchase allegation circulating in the public regarding Katılımevim shares, Karabat stated that 99 percent of the bank belongs to the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.

Declaring, "I claim that public resources will be used," Karabat argued that the process would not be sufficient to resolve the grievances of citizens. At the end of his speech, stating that the rights of employees and laborers who invested their money must be protected, Karabat said, "Our red line is the nation's line."
