YRP Chairman Erbakan lashes out at AKP: "How will we get rid of this government?"
Fatih Erbakan, Chairman of the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi), which has been in the spotlight recently due to its back-and-forth with the AKP, criticized the AKP government harshly during a speech in Kahramanmaraş. Erbakan stated, "A New Welfare government is essential to escape this cost of living. It is impossible to make it through the week, let alone the end of the month, with a 10 thousand lira pension. We must get rid of this cost of living."
Stating that the New Welfare Party could pull off a surprise, Erbakan continued:
“The greatest proof of this is in the squares. Another proof is in our membership numbers. We have gone from 265 thousand to 460 thousand in six months. No other party in Turkey has achieved such growth.
This is the blessing of the National View (Milli Görüş) cause. God willing, we will enter the elections with over 500 thousand members. March 31st is for local elections, and 2028 is for central government power. March 31st has two points of importance: an explosion of votes for moral municipalism, and paving the way to power for 2028.”
“NOT A MONTH, BUT A WEEK DOESN'T LAST”
Drawing attention to the cost of living, Erbakan said, “A New Welfare government is essential to escape this cost of living. It is impossible to make it through the week, let alone the end of the month, with a 10 thousand lira pension. We must get rid of this cost of living. What agreement did we sign on May 14th?
Waste will be prevented, resources will be produced, and the welfare level will be increased with resources saved from interest and waste, and recovered from privileged holdings. They did not do these things; 85 percent of the public is poor. 45 percent are below the hunger threshold,” he said.
“INFLATION IS NOT GOING TO FALL”
Stating that salvation lies in the National View economic model, Erbakan noted: “If we continue with this mentality, if this economic model is applied, neither inflation will fall, nor will the cost of living decrease, nor will we be saved from debt. The dollar doubles between two elections. Inflation is not going to fall.
Fuel, exports, everything is dependent on the dollar. The dollar has gone from 19 to 33. The government's own program states it will rise to 45. We will reduce the demand for foreign currency so that the exchange rate falls. For a new era of abundance and prosperity in 2028, a National View government is needed to increase the purchasing power of the nation instead of distributing alms to the nation.”
Erbakan stated, “March 31st is also important to get rid of mayors who think only of themselves rather than sharing the troubles of the citizens. It is important to get rid of municipalities that tender a 3 lira job for 10 lira and enrich their inner circles with the remaining 7 lira.”
“HOW WILL WE GET RID OF THIS GOVERNMENT?”
New Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan asked the public, "How will we get rid of this government?" and responded by criticizing the government's fiscal policies in harsh language.
He stated that the money required to increase the pensions of retirees is almost the same as the money given to interest payments. Giving an example, he emphasized that the money allocated for interest in the 2024 budget is 1.25 trillion lira, while the money required to increase the pensions of retirees is 1.4 trillion lira.
He expressed that this situation prevents interest payments from being used as resources that could increase the welfare of retirees.
Erbakan also expressed that the promises made in the memorandum signed before the May 14th elections—such as creating a balanced budget, preventing waste, and generating economic resources through national resource packages—have not been fulfilled.
He stated that as a result of this situation, the country's economy is suffering from debt and interest increases, and the welfare levels of citizens have fallen. He said, "The government did not do these things; it is the same old story, the country's economy continued with debt, interest, and price hikes, and today the minimum wage earner, the retiree, the worker, and the civil servant are all in a miserable state."
