YRP's Istanbul candidate Altınöz sends a 'fight' message to AKP officials: 'If we want to fight, there will be a fight'
Mehmet Altınöz, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) mayoral candidate for the New Welfare Party (YRP), made statements regarding the local elections. Altınöz said, "We do not want to fight. If we wanted to fight, there would be a fight. They want to fight with us, but we do not want to fight."
YRP's İBB mayoral candidate Mehmet Altınöz made evaluations regarding the local elections.
He stated that Erdoğan had taken off the 'National View' (Milli Görüş) shirt and therefore it was impossible for him to capture the 'spirit of '94'. Stating that some AKP officials want to fight with them, Altınöz said, "We do not want to fight. If we wanted to fight, there would be a fight."
"IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR THE PRESIDENT TO LIVE THAT SPIRIT"
Speaking to Anıl Mert Özsoy from Gazete Duvar, Altınöz recalled that AKP President Erdoğan had said he 'took off the National View shirt,' and stated the following:
"It is not possible for the president to live that spirit. They have already broken away from it. Because if you say 'I took off the National View shirt,' it is not possible for you to live that spirit. You say 'I took off that shirt,' and then you say 'let me live the spirit of '94,' this is not possible."
HOW WAS THE MAY 14 ALLIANCE FORMED?
Mehmet Altınöz explained the reasons why the AKP and YRP did not form an alliance in this election. Emphasizing that the presidential government system should be re-examined as a society, Altınöz said that the alliance proposal on May 14 came from the AKP.
"WE THANKED EACH OTHER"
Altınöz spoke about the alliance processes as follows:
"In the protocol we made on May 14, we gave the AK Party a list of 30 items that we wanted to be implemented. They said it could be done in the first stage. The day before our candidacy was announced, Mr. Binali Yıldırım called and said, 'Excuse us, we will not be able to sign.' We thanked each other."
"WE DID IT FOR THE HAPPINESS AND SALVATION OF TURKEY"
Stating that they care about the implementation of those items, Altınöz said, "They couldn't implement any of them anyway," and continued:
"They said 'no' in the first stage, and we announced our candidacy. On the last day when the signatures were to be submitted to the Supreme Election Council (YSK), the President invited our Chairman and said, 'My friends said so, but I will sign all of them. There is no problem. I will sign it.' We did it for the happiness and salvation of Turkey, not for our own sake."
"IF WE WANT TO FIGHT, THERE WILL BE A FIGHT"
Stating that some AKP officials want to fight with them, Altınöz noted the following:
"There are many media groups that support the ruling party. Our supporter is generally the citizen on the street. When this is the case, they try to bring it to the point of 'The New Welfare Party wanted more municipalities than it deserved, that's why this didn't happen' by using the media, but I have said the wrongness of this many times. I even said, 'Some of the AK Party officials want to fight with us.' But we do not want to fight. If we wanted to fight, there would be a fight. They want to fight with us, but we do not want to fight."
