YRP mayor resigns from his party

News of a resignation has come from the New Welfare Party (YRP), which won a significant number of municipalities by reaching a 6.19 percent vote share in the March 31 Local Elections.

In Konya, Altınekin Mayor Fatih Orhan and YRP municipal council members announced that they have resigned from the YRP.

Orhan stated that he has resigned from his party and will continue his path as an independent from now on.

In a statement made on his social media account, Orhan noted the following:

“We have always prioritized the demands and calls from our valued fellow citizens, striving and making efforts to serve them. On this path we embarked upon with the favor shown by our people, in order to carry out our work on the most accurate foundation and to focus on better services for our Altınekin, I, along with my fellow Municipal Council members, have decided to resign from the New Welfare Party as of today and continue our duties as ‘Independent.’

This decision we have taken is one that has been considered in all its aspects as a result of intensive consultations and supported by the views of our people. In this vein, I wish for the new period ahead to be auspicious for myself, my colleagues, and all our people.”
