YRP mayor who was elected 26 days ago resigns
In the Doğanhisar district of Konya, Ali Öztoklu, who was elected mayor from the New Welfare Party (YRP) just 26 days ago in the March 31 Local Administration General Elections, has resigned from his party. Öztoklu cited "implementing more effective and comprehensive projects" as the reason for his resignation.
Ali Öztoklu, who ran as the New Welfare Party's candidate for Konya-Doğanhisar in the March 31 local elections and won with 47.29 percent of the vote, has announced his resignation from the party. Öztoklu stated, "As of today, I have decided to continue my duties as mayor as an independent mayor."

Stating that he has decided to continue his path as an independent mayor, Öztoklu said, "The most important reason for this decision is my belief that, on this path I have taken for the development and prosperity of our Doğanhisar, I will be able to implement more effective and comprehensive projects as an independent mayor. For this reason, I respectfully inform my fellow citizens and the public that I have resigned from the New Welfare Party and will continue my path as an independent mayor, and I ask for your support and prayers."
