Zeydan Karalar: 'There is no obstacle to my return to office'
Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar made important statements regarding the process of his reinstatement following his release.
CHP Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar spoke about the process of his reinstatement following his release in the "Aziz İhsan Aktaş criminal organization" case in recent days.
THE SUPPORT OF THE PEOPLE OF ADANA IS A GREAT SOURCE OF PRIDE
When asked what touched him the most, Zeydan Karalar pointed to the immense support shown by the people of Adana. Karalar said, "It was the people of Adana standing by Zeydan Karalar like nowhere else in the world. There were thousands of people in the justice tent every day. Even in the 55-57 degree heat of summer, the young people did not stop and marched; they left an important note in the pages of history. Of course, I cannot love anyone more than my family, but the support of the people of Adana is a great source of pride for me."
"THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS HOPELESSNESS"
When asked if he ever felt pessimistic during his time in detention, Karalar said, "There is no such thing as hopelessness. What does Mustafa Kemal Atatürk say? He says, 'There is no hopelessness.' He says, 'There are hopeless people.' We have our beliefs, and we continue in that direction. Of course, there is an injustice, but my release shows that there is still trust in justice."
"WHY SHOULD I NOT RETURN TO OFFICE WHEN MANY OTHER MAYORS ARE IN OFFICE?"
Regarding the process of his reinstatement, Karalar made the following statement: "I arrived on Friday. I am not asking to be reinstated; I am demanding it. Because mayors accused of the same crime as me are currently in office. Now, why shouldn't Zeydan Karalar return to office? What kind of justification are they going to invent?" he said, stating that there is no obstacle to his return to office following his release.
Bringing up the major earthquake that Adana experienced, Karalar said, "Adana is a very old city. There is a lot of work to be done with its infrastructure, water, and other services. In addition to the major damage caused by the earthquake, there are significant problems such as air pollution and traffic issues. We will overcome all of these, God willing," he said.
