BirGün reporter İsmail Arı has been referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for his arrest as part of an investigation launched upon the complaint of former RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin.
It was reported that Arı is facing accusations of "insulting a public official due to their duty" and "disseminating misleading information to the public." Journalist Arı was summoned to the Ankara Police Department's Security Branch yesterday for questioning.
Arı, who went to the police station at 15:30, was notified of a detention order there. Having spent the night in police custody, Arı was referred to the courthouse this morning.
It was stated that following his statement to the prosecutor, Arı was sent to the court with a request for his arrest on the charge of "publicly disseminating misleading information."
It was noted that the referral for arrest included the statement, "it is understood that there are facts indicating the existence of strong suspicion of a crime and grounds for arrest."
