Following the appointment of a trustee to Halk TV, a call for a solidarity gathering in front of the channel has come from the YENİ Party. YENİ Party Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik, in a post on his social media account, invited citizens to gather in front of Halk TV on Wednesday, October 21, at 19:00.
Çelik stated that the call was made by YENİ Party Chairman Özgür Özel and announced that Özel would also be present at the gathering.
“You cannot silence the free press, you cannot obscure the truth! At the call of our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, we will be in front of Halk TV tomorrow. We are growing our solidarity against oppression and censorship, and we are standing up for a free press. We look forward to seeing all our citizens.”
WHAT HAPPENED?
A trustee was appointed to Halk TV on October 14, and following the decision, channel executives and employees expressed their concerns regarding press freedom. The YENİ Party had also shared messages of solidarity with Halk TV following the decision.
