Many journalists gathered at the Çağlayan Courthouse from the morning hours to follow the hearing held at the Istanbul 25th High Criminal Court.

In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terror Crimes Investigation Bureau, it is requested that Karabay be punished for his actions on charges of "publicly insulting the President," "repeatedly targeting individuals involved in the fight against terrorism," and "insulting a public official due to their duty." In line with these charges, a prison sentence of approximately 6 to 15 years is sought for Karabay.

During his defense, Furkan Karabay tore up the indictment in front of the judge.

Karabay said the following in his defense:

“With the operations carried out in recent months, I protest the Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court, which tried journalist Ercüment Akdeniz with the HDK and continued the detention of Fatih Altaylı; the Istanbul 40th High Criminal Court, which accepted the IMM indictment full of deficiencies and material errors; the 13th High Criminal Court, which did not recognize the Constitutional Court's rights violation ruling regarding Tayfun Kahraman; the criminal judgeships of peace that issued arrest warrants for students and young people; and the 25th High Criminal Court, which accepted the indictment that directed accusations against me as if filling out a betting coupon.”

RELEASE DECISION ISSUED

Karabay was sentenced to 1 year and 9 months for "insulting the President," 1 year and 3 months for "insulting a public official due to their duty," and 1 year and 3 months for "targeting individuals involved in the fight against terrorism" regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek.
