BirGün reporter İsmail Arı has been referred to the courthouse after being detained as part of an investigation launched upon the complaint of former RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin.
Arı faces accusations of "insulting a public official due to their duty" and "spreading misleading information to the public." The journalist is expected to provide his statement to the prosecutor's office.
İsmail Arı was summoned to the Ankara Police Department's Security Branch for questioning yesterday at 15:30. Upon arriving at the police station at the specified time, Arı was notified of his detention order.
Arı, who spent the night in police custody, was taken to the courthouse today around 10:00.
Arı had previously been detained in Tokat as part of an investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The journalist, who spent 75 days in Sincan Prison on charges of "publicly spreading misleading information," appeared before a judge on June 5, 2026.
In the first hearing held at the Ankara 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance, the prosecution had requested the continuation of his detention, but the court decided to release Arı without the application of any judicial control measures.
