Izmir Bar Association President announces: Signs of battery found on detained youth

Izmir Bar Association President Sefa Yılmaz and Board Member responsible for the Prison Commission, Ceren Şen Tosun, met at Menemen Prison with the youth who were detained for protesting the detention of IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu. Izmir Bar Association President announces: Signs of battery found on detained youth

Izmir Bar Association President Sefa Yılmaz and Board Member responsible for the Izmir Bar Association Prison Commission, Ceren Şen Tosun, met at Menemen Prison with the youth who were arrested for protesting the detention of IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu. Following the meeting, a statement was issued by the Bar Association.

PHYSICAL ASSAULT AGAINST DETAINEES

According to the statement, signs of battery and force were found on the detained youth during the interviews. Yılmaz and Tosun stated that the youth were subjected to verbal and physical assault by prison guards, and that the prison administration and the prison doctor ignored the situation. Furthermore, it was noted that reports regarding torture and ill-treatment have been filed.

COMPLAINTS SHARED WITH THE PRISON PROSECUTOR AND DIRECTOR

Izmir Bar Association President Sefa Yılmaz shared the human rights violations experienced by the detainees with the Prison Prosecutor and the Prison Director, and requested that the existing camera footage be preserved. The Bar Association announced that it would follow up on the grievances experienced by the detainees throughout this process.

The Izmir Bar Association announced the situation of the detainees under the heading "Human dignity will defeat torture" and stated, "As the Izmir Bar Association, we do not accept any mentality or action that disregards human beings. With our stance in favor of fundamental rights and freedoms, we will meticulously follow the process and file criminal complaints against all those responsible."
